If you haven’t heard (or tried) Dimple Haig Whisky then you are either not a lover of whisky or you don’t know what you are missing.

Here’s some interesting facts about this iconic whisky brand that will make you jump in the car, drive to your nearest liquor outlet and pick up a bottle.

• The Haig whisky distilling dynasty can rightfully lay claim to be the oldest Scotch whisky distillers having being active distillers for over 350 years.

• Robert Haig learned the art of distilling in Holland before moving to Throsk, near Alloa, in 1623. 32 Years later he was summoned to appear before the Kirk Session who accused him of the heinous crime of distilling on the Sabbath. This marked the earliest documented reference to a distillery company still operating today.

• In 1958 the Haig Dimple bottle was the first container to be trademarked by the US Patent Office for its unique design. Dimple whisky comes in a triangular bottle with a wire net wrapped around it. This attractive container has been around for centuries and the wire mesh is applied by hand. The wire mesh was initially present to prevent the cork from coming off during rough weather at sea.

• From 1930- 1970 Haig Gold Label was the UK’s brand leader, backed by the famous slogan ‘Don’t be vague, ask for Haig’. It was the first brand to sell a million cases in the home market.

• Joe Kennedy, JFK’s father and chairman of Somerset Importers, was appointed distributor of the Haig’s Dimple brands in the USA.

• Dimple whisky is known as Pinch in the USA.

• To this day the Haig’s Cameron Bridge Distillery is the largest spirit distillery in Europe.
